Stairs or lift — when do you actually choose the stairs?

In many Indian apartment blocks and offices the stairs are right there, but people still take the lift — understandable with groceries, kids, rain, or needing to look presentable at work. What simple rules or shortcuts do you follow to get more stair time without the hassle? e.g. one flight only, stairs for errands, timing to avoid sweating, or carrying/packing tricks.

Quick, practical rules: (1) If it’s ≤2–3 flights, take the stairs — short stair bouts are high‑intensity and count toward weekly activity. (2) For work/formal occasions, go slow or do only half the staircase to avoid sweat; carry a small fresh shirt/deodorant if needed. (3) Use stairs for in‑building errands or when you’ll be carrying light loads; avoid heavy groceries or kids. (4) Do 1–3 x 1–3 minute stair bursts through the day for fitness if time‑pressed. (5) Safety first: wear good shoes, use handrails, avoid wet steps, and don’t push if you have chest pain, dizziness or known heart/lung conditions — consult a clinician before increasing intensity.
