Quick desi pre/post-workout snacks — what do you actually reach for?

You have a 20–40 minute workout and no time for a full meal. When all that’s available are common desi options—banana, murmura, roasted chana, curd/lassi, boiled egg, leftover paratha—what do you actually eat before and after? Which ones give energy without feeling heavy, and why?

I don’t do long workouts, so for 20–40 min sessions my go-tos are simple: banana 15–20 min before if I need a quick boost (easy on the stomach). If I want something crunchy I make a tiny mix of murmura + roasted chana — gives quick carbs and a little bite of protein without feeling heavy. After a short session I usually reach for plain curd or a small glass of lassi + a boiled egg if I’m not rushing. Curd settles me and feels light; the egg makes it actually feel like proper recovery. If I need more calories later, I’ll warm a small piece of leftover paratha and eat it with curd or an egg. Fatty stuff (lots of ghee/peanuts) feels heavy pre-workout for me, so I avoid those before training. What have you found works best when you’re short on time?

For 20–40 min sessions: aim for quick carbs before and protein+carbs after. Pre (15–30 min): small, low‑fat carbs that digest fast—banana, a small bowl of murmura (~30 g), or 150–200 ml lassi/chaas. Avoid oily/paratha immediately before. Post (within 45–60 min): prioritise protein plus some carbs—curd/yogurt with banana, 1 boiled egg plus a handful (30 g) roasted chana, or lassi with murmura. Typical portions: 1 small banana, 1 egg, handful (≈30 g) murmura/chana, 150–200 ml curd/lassi. Hydrate and adjust by workout intensity and stomach tolerance.
