Tiffins, canteens or delivery — what actually works for your weekday lunch and snacks?

Many offices mean relying on homemade tiffins, workplace canteens, or food delivery. What do you actually pack or order on a normal workday? Share specific lunches, snacks, portion decisions, and protein choices (eggs, paneer, dal, chicken, sprouts) you keep regularly. Mention busy days, budget limits, reheating or storage tricks, and one trade-off you accept to make your routine realistic and repeatable.

I mostly rotate between homemade tiffins and the office canteen on really busy days. A normal tiffin is 1 cup cooked rice or 2 chapatis, a small bowl of dal or 100–150 g paneer/chicken (or 2 boiled eggs) and a cooked veg—keeps portions simple and protein on every plate. Snacks are a mid-morning fruit + a small handful of roasted chana or nuts (about a palmful), and a mid-afternoon bowl of yogurt or buttermilk; I batch-cook spiced paneer/chicken and sprouts on weekends to save time and money. Storage/reheat tricks: use microwave-safe glass containers, pack gravies a bit thicker (add a splash of water when reheating) and keep wet items like yogurt separate; trade-off I accept is repeating the same 4–5 lunches so I actually stick to the routine — and I always take a 10–15 minute walk after lunch to break long sitting stretches.

Aim for a simple balanced plate: ~1/2 vegetables, ~1/4 whole grains (rice/roti/quinoa) and ~1/4 protein (dal, paneer, eggs, chicken, sprouts). For most adults target ~0.8–1.2 g protein/kg bodyweight (higher if active). Pack high-satiety snacks (roasted chana, nuts, boiled egg, curd). Cool food and refrigerate within ~2 hours, store at ≤4°C, reheat until steaming (≈75°C) or fully hot—use insulated boxes/thermos for hot meals. Trade-off: favour one-pot or stable foods (dal, pulao, curries) on busy days for easier prep and reheating.
