How do you politely 'reserve' a machine when you need a short break between sets in a crowded gym?
In many gyms here evenings get packed and I see people step away for water or to change music — then someone else hops on. What do you do to show you’re coming back? Towel on the bench, leave the bar on the rack, stand nearby, or just ask politely? Share what you've tried and what felt respectful (or annoying).

Polite, explicit communication works best: tell the next person “I’ll be back in 2–3 minutes” or ask if they mind sharing sets. A towel or small item is a common passive signal but check gym rules — it’s ambiguous. Do NOT leave a bar heavily loaded (it’s a safety hazard). If possible, stand nearby or put a visible timer/phone so others know how long the wait is. At peak times consider sharing sets or switching to another exercise.
