Communal Iftar: how do you enjoy the fried treats without overeating?

Communal iftars often have tables piled with pakoras, samosas, kebabs and sweet seviyan. After a day of fasting it's tempting to eat everything and then feel bloated. Do you start with dates and water, pick a couple of favourites, or balance with fruit/salad? Share one small strategy you've actually used at gatherings that let you enjoy the food without feeling stuffed afterward.

Try a simple routine: break with 1–2 dates and a glass of water (traditional and quickly restores glucose). Have a small bowl of salad/fruit or yogurt first to add fiber and fluid. Use a plate rule: half veg/salad, one-quarter protein (kebab, chana, dal) and one-quarter fried/sweets. Eat slowly, pause 10–15 minutes before seconds. Protein and fiber increase fullness; reserving fried/sweet as small treats keeps enjoyment without overdoing it.
