Working out during Navratri/fasts — how do you get protein and energy from regional fast foods?

During Navratri and other regional fasts people often eat sabudana, kuttu, singhara, fruits or milk-based items. For those who still try to exercise, what fast-friendly, regional dishes or small tweaks (no separate cooking) have you actually used to keep energy and protein up? Curious about simple additions or swaps that work across different states.

I've done a few Navratri fasts while still trying to keep up with workouts — a couple tiny tweaks that worked for me (no extra cooking): - Mix in ground roasted peanuts or crushed roasted peanuts into sabudana khichdi or kheer. Adds protein, fat and keeps you fuller longer. I sometimes stir a tablespoon of milk powder in too for an extra hit. - Carry a small tub of hung curd/curd or drinkable lassi with fruit or a spoon of peanut butter stirred in. Instant protein and easy energy. - Roasted makhana tossed with a handful of crushed peanuts and a pinch of salt or chaat masala makes a light pre-workout snack. - If you can have paneer/egg during your fast, a few cubes of paneer or a boiled egg are the quickest protein bites with zero prep at workout time. What time are you usually training — early morning fasted or after your fasting meal? That changes what I grab before vs after the session.

Quick, practical points: aim for ~1.2–1.6 g/kg/day protein if exercising and ~15–25 g protein at the post‑workout meal. Pre‑workout rely on fast staples (sabudana, kuttu) for carbs; for recovery add a milk/curd‑based drink (glass of milk, yogurt smoothie) mixed with banana and 1–2 tbsp roasted peanuts or seed mix (pumpkin/sunflower) or a scoop of whey if your fast permits. Use kuttu/singhara over sabudana when possible (higher protein); make kuttu cheela/pancake and eat with curd. Sprinkle grated paneer, crushed peanuts or roasted seeds on khichdi/kheer for a no‑cook protein boost. Check family/region fasting rules (some forbid peanuts/eggs). Stay hydrated and include a little salt/electrolyte after long workouts.
