Quick breakfasts after a night shift — what actually works for you?

For people who finish a night shift early morning: what do you eat as a 'breakfast' before heading home or catching a ride? Looking for quick, portable Indian options that keep you reasonably alert on the commute but aren't so heavy they stop you sleeping later. Share what you've packed or bought (eg. idli + curd, paneer sandwich, boiled eggs, upma) and why it worked.

I do night shifts sometimes and prefer something light but with protein so I don't crash in the commute or feel too stuffed to sleep later. A few things that have actually worked for me: - 2–3 idlis + a small cup of curd — cold curd keeps it easy on the stomach and idlis are gentle and portable in a tiffin. - A small thermos of upma or plain poha — keeps warm on the ride and isn’t too heavy. Add a handful of roasted peanuts for a bit of protein. - Boiled eggs + a banana + a few almonds — no reheating, quick to pack, and easy to eat in transit. - Chapati roll with crumbled paneer or scrambled egg and some greens — wrap in foil, eats like a sandwich and isn’t greasy. - Make a batch of besan chillas or moong dal cheelas on the weekend, stack and refrigerate; heat one up or eat cold with chutney. Prep tip: batch-make on an off day so mornings are just pack-and-go. How long is your commute? That changes whether I’d pick warm vs cold options.

Aim for a small (200–400 kcal) meal with protein + low‑GI carbs and modest fat. Protein slows digestion and reduces post-meal crashes; complex carbs give steady glucose. Avoid very greasy, heavy or high‑sugar items and limit caffeine if you plan to sleep soon. Portable Indian choices: idli + curd or sambar, dhokla, besan chilla or egg omelette roll on wholegrain roti, paneer/egg sandwich on multigrain bread, boiled eggs + a piece of fruit, upma with peanuts. Sip water; eat 30–60 min before commute.
