One visible item that actually made you move more — what did you leave out?

Sometimes the smallest prompt helps: a skipping rope by the door, a resistance band on the sofa, a water bottle on the desk, or a yoga mat unrolled in the living room. Has anyone tried placing one visible object to nudge a healthy habit? What did you pick, did it actually get used, and did it stick or become background clutter?

Editorial

Behavior science shows visible cues plus a clear plan increase follow-through. Pick one small, specific action (e.g., 2 minutes of skipping, 5 squats) and place the cue where you already are (door, sofa, desk). Use an if–then implementation intention (“If I sit at my desk, I’ll do 1 minute of marching”), keep the action tiny so it’s frictionless, and tie it to an immediate small reward (water, music). To prevent clutter, set a 2–4 week trial, then rotate or retire the item if it’s become background noise.
