On busy weekdays, do you split cardio and strength or combine them into one short session?

I usually have 30–40 minutes after work. Some people split—20 minutes cardio one day, 20 minutes lifting the next—while others do a 30-minute circuit mixing both. When time's tight, which do you pick and why? Say what you actually do (example routine or quick swap) and what you lose or gain by that choice.

Short answer: pick based on your priority. Combine (30-min circuits or HIIT+compound moves) when time-efficiency and cardio + maintenance strength matter — it's great for fitness, calorie burn and preserving strength. Split or separate sessions when maximal strength or hypertrophy is the goal (do heavier lifts first); fatigue from cardio can reduce lifting performance. Quick rules: follow WHO guidance (150–300 min moderate aerobic/week + muscle-strengthening 2+ days/week). Practical swaps: 30-min full-body circuit (3 rounds of 6 compound moves, 40s work/20s rest) or 20 min strength (2–3 heavy compounds, 3–4 sets) + 8–10 min HIIT finisher.
