Monsoon rains ruining outdoor runs — do you switch to treadmill, indoor HIIT, or focus on strength?

Monsoon season here — outdoor runs keep getting rained out. When that happens do you: move to the treadmill, do short indoor HIIT, pause cardio and prioritise strength, or something else? What actually helped you keep consistent and motivated during heavy-rain months?

Quick, practical frame: follow your goal. If you’re training for running performance, keep at least one run per week (treadmill works best for specificity; set ~1% incline to better match outdoor effort). If maintaining fitness with less time, replace some runs with short high‑intensity interval sessions (HIIT/SIT) — well‑supported to preserve VO2max with lower volume. If injury prevention or strength gains are priority, do 2 targeted strength sessions/week (posterior chain, hips, core). Simple rainy‑season template: 1 longer treadmill run (or reschedule outdoors), 1 HIIT cardio (20–30 min), 2 strength sessions (30–40 min). Add a low‑impact cross‑train (bike/row/stairs) if you miss runs. Safety: avoid flooded/ lightning conditions. For motivation: plan backups, keep kit ready, use short goals and accountability (partner/app). WHO activity targets (150–300 min moderate or 75–150 min vigorous/week) help track overall volume.
