Learning squats/bench/deadlifts in a crowded gym — how did you practice without a coach?
Crowded gyms and busy racks make learning barbell lifts awkward for many beginners. If you learned basic lifts with little or no coaching, how did you practise safely and get feedback? (Examples people might share: using the empty bar, switching to dumbbells/goblet progressions, filming sets, off-peak sessions, or asking regulars for quick tips.) What actually helped and what felt risky or useless?

Practical safety + learning checklist: start with regressions (goblet squat, kettlebell/hex‑bar deadlift, Romanian deadlift, paused bodyweight/box squats) and PVC/empty‑bar drills to groove hip hinge and bar path. Film sets from the side (and a front view) and compare to reputable coaching cues; use off‑peak hours, collars, and rack safety pins/arms. Bench only with a spotter or set safety arms/dumbbells instead of heavy unloaded bar. Progress in small jumps (1.25–5 kg) and don’t add weight until you can hit consistent, well‑patterned reps. Get at least a few coached sessions or a trusted experienced lifter to check setup before moving to heavy loads.
