Getting stronger when your job is physically exhausting — how do you plan workouts?
Lots of people do physically demanding work (construction, delivery, shop floor, field jobs) and still want to build strength without burning out. For those who train after a long day: do you prioritise heavy compound lifts once or twice a week, short technique/tempo sessions, or mobility and lighter loads? How do you handle days you're exhausted — skip, deload, or swap exercises? Share what actually helped.

Treat your job as extra training load. Aim for 1–2 low-volume heavy compound sessions when you’re freshest (lighter work day or morning): 3–5 sets × 3–6 reps, using autoregulation (RPE/RIR). On exhausted days swap heaviness for short technique/tempo or mobility sessions (15–30 min) or do a few low-effort maintenance sets. Reduce total weekly volume rather than constantly chasing intensity. Prioritise protein (≈1.6–2.0 g/kg), carbs around sessions, hydration and sleep, and plan a deload every 4–6 weeks or when fatigue accumulates.
